FAQ

Below you will find a few frequently asked questions about Mode Brutale's policies and timelines. If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out and message modebrutale@gmail.com.

Q: How do I know if I'm measuring my waist correctly?

A: Your true waist is commonly the smallest part of your waist area, located right above your belly button. You want to ensure the tape measure is level and straight, and even in the back. Make sure it's not too tight, you shouldn't be cinching your waist in at all. Don't hold your breath while measuring, and check the number on the tape measure after exhaling. See size chart page for a more visual explanation.

Q: How long will it take for my custom sized item to be finished?

A: Chain belts and earrings take the quickest and usually will ship out in about 3-7 business days. Belts, corsets, and other items do take some time to make, so give it 2-3 weeks for production. If you need an item sooner for an event, feel free to email modebrutale@gmail.com and I will be happy to accommodate if possible.

Q: Do you accept returns or exchanges?

A: As most of the items are handmade and made custom to order, I do not currently offer any returns or exchanges at this time.

Q: Do you take custom commission work?

A: Many times the answer will be a huge YES! I am open to making a custom order, especially if you see something on the site and it's either "Sold Out" or there's aspects of two different types of belts you'd like to see merged together, your size isn't listed etc... Just email me at modebrutale@gmail.com with requests and I will do my best to quote you a price and to accommodate your wishes.

Q: I have a latex or nickel allergy. How do I know if your items will be safe for me?

A: I do try to list all of the materials as accurately as possible, but with that being said, if you have a severe allergy, I would proceed with caution. I use mostly neoprene rubber, but it is industrial grade and I can never be sure that there are not trace amounts of latex used. As far as nickel, there are some jewelry items that *may* contain nickel, but I did intentionally purchase stainless steel earring hooks (the part that actually goes into your ear) to hopefully help anyone with minor nickel allergies to be able to wear them.

Q: Is metal uncomfortable? Is it safe to wear?

A: I do try to design each piece with comfort in mind, but these ultimately *are* fashion pieces, and fashion isn't always comfortable! All metal pieces are lined with either rubber or foam. The metal is carefully filed and sanded on the edges to avoid any real danger, but like with anything, wear at your own risk.

Q: Do you ship internationally?

A: Currently, I ship to the USA, Canada and Puerto Rico. I will ship internationally to other countries per special request if possible. Just email modebrutale@gmail.com for all inquires and we can sell internationally through a protected 3rd party site such as Depop, or I can send you a PayPal invoice. Prices and shipping prices will vary. Customer is responsible for all customs, duties and other fees.

Q: How do I care for my items?

A: Chain belts are kept untangled and easy to store by hanging them up by slipping the o-rings onto a hanger in your closet. Zinc and sterling silver items can tarnish and oxidize, but it can easily be removed by wiping them down with a dry cloth or towel, and even cleaning them with toothpaste to remove any tarnish (works so well!). The best way to store the metal or plastic corset belts would be to wrap them in an old t-shirt and put them in a drawer. They can also be hung in a closet. Neoprene rubber, aluminum and stainless are all very strong materials so your pieces should last an entire lifetime with the proper care. If you wish to clean any of the items, I recommend gently wiping them down with a soft cloth and soapy water. Dry throughly with hand towel. Do not put any of the jackets/clothing items in the washer or dryer, use the same wipe down method as mentioned above. Email me with any additional care questions.
